Darcy's manner   Written by LisaS (4/13/2010 2:51 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I've always wondered..., penned by Andrea Gayle
Are you new?

From Ch 4 about Darcy...

"He was at the same time haughty, reserved, and fastidious, and his manners, though well-bred, were not inviting. In that respect his friend had greatly the advantage. Bingley was sure of being liked wherever he appeared, Darcy was continually giving offence."

So, Darcy tended to give 'offence' wherever he went because he was 'haughty', 'fastidious', and his manners were 'not inviting' (not just at the Meryton Assembly or to those of lesser standing to himself). I gather that he was an equal opportunity offender. How does he have friends at all? [tongue in cheek] ;) I used this quote a ways down the board too but thought to use it again here since it seems appropriately related to your last paragraph.
