You are absolutely right - I should use a dictionary from Jane's time to find the meaning of the words she's used. I am heartened to know that "caprice" as defined by Mr. Johnson also does not contain "lack of motivation", since I did not like Donald Sutherland's interpretation of Mr. Bennet. I think if we used a synonym for caprice in this day and age, it would be "freak"! :D

A dictionary can be so enlightening!
