that I was referring to, but the possibility that he did not want one of these country girls to get the idea he was admiring her. He wished to remain aloof from them all, with no particular interest in Lizzy--he may not have even noticed her, had Bingley not pointed her out.

And this was just a passing question in my head, not an "assertion." :)
