Hippolita reminds me a lot of Jane, Jane Bennet that is. Consider this statement by the princess: "Manfred, in the agony for the loss of thy brother, knew not what he said; perhaps Isabella misunderstood him: his heart is good—and, my child, thou knowest not all."
Her words reminded me of the part in P&P when Jane was trying to make excuses for Mr. Wickham's character saying something like "we do not know all of the details" and "they may both be decieved".
Also this statement by Matilda reminds me of Elizabeth's comments about Jane's goodness: “Oh, she is the mother of both,” cried Matilda: “can we, can we, Isabella, adore her too much?”
Also Jane's rather giving up on ever having Mr. Bingley's affections reminds me of the way Hippolita was ready to give up Manfred and concent to a divorce for the sake of his happiness. That heaven that Ms. Austen didn't make Bingley such an oddious character as Manfred! I hope someone takes care of him soon, and perhaps Hippolita will be able to have a husband she deserves like say, Frederic? :-)
