because her heroines have 'backbone' and the virtue to boot! Some like Lizzie, Marianne and Emma have so much backbone and a little less of the virtue shows through, then there's Anne, Elinor, and Fanny who have an abundance of virtue and their backbone doesn't show through as much! Catherine Morland seems to be somewhere in the middle. :)
