A different take on _The Monk _   Written by Delories (1/24/2006 9:43 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Seriously..., penned by Golda
Are you new?

Not to go off subject, but since it came up, and it _is_ mentioned in NA... I read _The Monk_ looong ago (for a college lit course on Romanticism), but I remember just finding it creepy and depraved, rather than as entertaining as _Otranto_ , which I've never read, other than brief selections in critical essays, until now (loved the foot)!

Remember,in NA, the only character who says he's read _The Monk_ is John Thorpe. Not a very good recommendation! (I HIGHLY doubt that Catherine's parents would have let her read it, nor _Tom Jones_, the other novel J. Thorpe mentions in the same breath...)
