Another great pic ! Somehow, I imagined Manfred's castle would have a turrent like HW's house.
( I wonder if the wallpaers come from Walpole's time or were put up later ? Loved the strawberry silk paper-beautiful, despite it's decayed condition.)
Horace Walpole must've been crazy about gothic architecture and furnishings !
The Twickenham museum site is worth a browse too. I liked the pic of Walpole's cottage.
I read about Walpole's dream as the inspiration for Otranto on
Apparently, one evening Walpole was so engrossed in his tale, he wrote from the time he had drunk tea, about six o'clock, till half an hour after one in the morning, when his hand was so weary, 'I could not finish the sentence, but left Matilda and Isabella talking, in the middle of a paragraph.

I wonder if JA was aware HW had an Aunt Dorothy who was not well treated by her husband and imprisoned by him. She later died when she fell down a staircase.
