I misread it   Written by Cheryl (1/23/2006 7:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I thought it didn't come from the church, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

This is the passage that made me think it was the same helmet:

"During this altercation, some of the vulgar spectators had run to the great church, which stood near the castle, and came back open - mouthed, declaring that the helmet was missing from Alfonso’s statue."

Though rereading, I find that it isn't the same helmet, just a giant helmet that looks like Alfonso's.

"...he has stolen the helmet from good Alfonso’s tomb, and dashed out the brains of our young prince with it,” never reflecting how enormous the disproportion was between the marble helmet that had been in the church..."

So, things disappear from Alfonso's statue and then turn up in the castle, super-sized? If that's the case, did anyone think to check the statue to see if he still had his foot?! ;-)
