Because if it were, I cannot believe anyone would be scared by it! It is just too silly. Pythonesque, as others have mentioned:

Tim: That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered helmet you ever set eyes on!
Sir Robin: You tit! I soiled my armor I was so scared!
Tim: Look, that helmet's got a vicious streak a mile wide! It's a killer!

Or are we so primed by giant apes, and sophisticated off-camera horrors that we have become too cynical?
