|I thought of General Tilney...

in consequence of the missive, Menancing Manfred, penned by Tara O'Donnell
...because at first Manfred was being so indulgent and showing such favouritism toward Isabella, the prospective daughter in law. This reminded me of how solicitous General Tilney was towards Catherine at first, supposing her to come from a large fortune.
The funny part is, of course, that Catherine required no additional incentive to like Henry Tilney very much indeed, while all that Manfred had done (at first) to make Isabella interested in his son had been to no avail.
Also, General Tilney does not seem to value his own daughter very much, although nothing compared to Manfred's attitude toward Matilda!!
