Innocent Catherine. Imho, her entertainment in assigning roles to the fantasy script based on the influence of novels was a childish diversion with unintended consequences, but her intuition was spot on. An accidental heroine? I think yes.

It was my impression that, after further consideration, Henry realized that his father was indeed a culpable villian through his campaign of emotional abuse, rather than physical abuse; and that cast a permanent pall over the household.

(Sorry I did not supply quotes to support my impression.)
