...is that she doesn't know she's produced such a well-placed zinger and that it is the result of, as Jeffry has pointed out, her knowledge of the young stout Catherine who loved to roll down hills and such. Catherine must have been quite scruffy back in the day. It alludes so nicely to the long easy going relationship between the two and is just one of many examples of JA's ability to characterize so humorously.
