A couple of questions   Written by Rute (4/3/2012 5:36 p.m.)
Are you new?

In Chapter 1, when the narrator is describing how Catherine improves with age, she says "...her eyes gained more animation, and her figure more consequence." Could anyone explain to me what it means that her figure gained "more consequence"? I don't recall seeing the word consequence used like this in other JA novels. I get that it has a general positive connotation, but the phrase itself makes little sense to me.

My second question concerns Chapter 5, where "dressed or undressed balls" are mentioned. I assume everyone was dressed at both of these balls, so what events are these and what's difference between them?

Thank you!
