This was my very first RoP Group Read   Written by Ellen M (3/29/2009 1:34 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Great Group Read, penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

I absolutely *loved it*!!! I learned so much. I love that Jane Austen's works can be enjoyed with only the barest understanding of her times, and that it's so enjoyable to dig deeper into the times in which she wrote and so gain a fuller appreciation her brilliance and crafts-wo-manship. ;)

Thank you all for witty, intelligent and fascinating discussions. The Bedford - without this group read, I would have never known that this oblique reference brought up a whole 'nother aspect of society for many of JA's contemporary readers that she wasn't about to refer to directly. Thanks especially to Line for digging into Henry's discussions of his brother's behavior - I enjoyed learning what they say about societal mores in general and Henry's motives in particular.

I also enjoyed re-visiting JA's *brilliant* treatment of John Thorpe - darn good thing JA had so many brothers and scholar borders in her childhood home! Thanks TimLee for adding "bloviator" to my vocabulary! John Thorpe is currently my favorite JA villian. I suspect he will hang onto that position of honor in my askance view for some time to come.
