My focus on Henry's POV got a bit diffused   Written by Tom P2 (3/27/2009 5:08 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, So how did you do with your focus?, penned by Lynn
Are you new?

I don't remember posting anything with the word 'focus' in the subject line, but did pay some attention to Henry's point of view.

Probably the biggest things were keeping track of how Catherine comes across (only semi-promising until she started expressing a reluctance to be drawn into the Thorpes' company so very much), and his range of reactions to what she says:

  • Pounce on it and play with it if it isn't very serious

  • Pounce on it and provoke thought if it is, except...

  • Don't pounce, and try not to dwell on it, if it concerns Frederick's 'lively thoughtlessness' (ch19) or the general's temper.

I'm not convinced that that amounts to sweeping things under the carpet, or that he was ever a peace-at-any-price type of peacemaker. His unprecedented defiance is adequately explained by the unprecedented situation.
