in a way that it doesn't in the others. Delightful! I'd guess that the fact that we don't see this nearly as much in her other novels is that, being her first novel, it most closely reflected the conversational tone in which she was accustomed to presenting her stories. As she grew and developed as a writer, she was better able to carry her stories in a wider variety of narrative voices
