one of those practical people who don't think of moping around as being in love, nor do they dwell on philosophies like "The course of true love never did run smooth".

She probably always thought that if Catherine were ever in love she would tell them, and they would never refuse the suitor and all will run smoothly, and there was no reason for this sort of behaviour of Catherine's. :-)
