I just love the visit to Woodston! Can't believe it hasn't been discussed yet - did I miss a thread somewhere?
It's clear at this point that Catherine is completely and totally smitten with Henry. He goes away for a few days, and there is nothing left in the world that can occupy or amuse her. Luckily, Wednesday "did come, and exactly when it might be reasonably looked for" and not a moment later or she might not have survived! LOL!
When they arrive, Henry and his dogs are there to greet them, with the house particularly tidied up in anticipation of their (her?) visit - I love the image of Henry taking extra care to make sure things looked good for her!
Then the visit itself is replete with misunderstandings between Catherine and the General - she is reluctant to speak, and the General interprets it as disapprobation. Then she bursts forth with her admiration of the sitting room and the General runs with it and practically starts ordering furniture and wallpaper. This is when Catherine finally realizes what's going on. It's about time! Has she finally clued in to all of the General's subtext that's been going over her head for the past few weeks at Northanger?
What a day!
