At first she feels wretched in Bath that they have no acquaintance, and is thrilled to quickly gain the acquaintance of so many - 5 Thorpes! 4 Tilneys! But she learns that numerous acquaintances are not necessarily a good thing if they are not true friends, and does infinitely better once she limits herself only to those few who are worthy of being called friends.
