Ch.28: Practical considerations   Written by Line (3/25/2009 9:57 a.m.)
Are you new?

At the end of ch.28, Eleanor suggests that Catherine may no longer have enough money for her expenses on the trip home, which turns out to be the case. Of all the unpleasant things the General does, this is the one that bugs me the most. This practical consideration seems not to have occurred to him, any more than it did to Catherine, when of all the things everyone worries about, this is the one that might *really* have had the most serious consequences. He's completely falling down on his duties, not only as a host, but as a guardian in loco parentis. (I also appreciate Eleanor all the more for thinking of it, for mentioning it despite her embarrassment, and for lending her friend the money (and it's a good thing she *has* cash on hand on the spur of the moment, as well!)

I also appreciate JA for making Catherine's trip home quite uneventful after all their worrying, as would most likely happen in the real world!
