which both seems possible IMO, I realized that in her first mention in the novel she is called "Sally" (ch.1:and after all, her next sister, Sally, could say it - the “Beggar’s Petition” - better than she did. Towards the end of the novel she is called "Sarah" (ch.29:Her father, mother, Sarah, George, and Harriet, all assembled at the door to welcome her with affectionate eagerness...

So the desire of the young lady of common gentility to alter her name has at least been appreciated by the author... ;o)
