Yes, that last sentence of chapter 25 is a beauty! Catherine doesn't consciously notice the steady stream of sincere praise* because she's too busy thinking about James et al, but instead it goes and nestles in the back of her mind. (Not that her relieved spirits are entirely due to praise.) 'Some chance or other', indeed!
