Going back a bit...Chapters 10 and 11   Written by Sarah Hannah (3/22/2009 5:32 p.m.)
Are you new?

Despite not having been able to keep up with the GR schedule, I maintained my plan of focusing on Isabella during this read. I think I dog-eared just about every page trying to keep track of all her empty professions and contradictions!

I was watching her and James closely, too, to see if there were any early hints of an understanding between them that I had missed in previous readings. Here's what I came up with:

Ch. 10: Do you know, I get so immoderately sick of Bath; your brother and I were agreeing this morning that, though it is vastly well to be here for a few weeks, we would not live here for millions. We soon found out that our tastes were exactly alike in preferring the country to every other place; really, our opinions were so exactly the same, it was quite ridiculous! There was not a single point in which we differed...

And Ch. 11: My sweetest Catherine, is not this delightful? We shall have a most heavenly drive. You are to thank your brother and me for the scheme; it darted into our heads at breakfast–time, I verily believe at the same instant...

There is no other mention from the ON of what James is doing with his time while in Bath, and considering that she thanked him for coming just to see her, Catherine never really questions that James spends almost no time visiting her or the Allens, except with Isabella. But Isabella gives us these little off-hand references to James spending mornings with her, when only the most intimate of connections could properly visit each other before early afternoon.

It was fun to catch these.
