Are you new?

in Bath, I mean. He obviously liked her a lot, but I wonder at what point he became committed to marrying her? (Of course, I like that we're not told explicitly.) I do believe once he was fully aware of how much her affections were engaged by him, though, he would never have continued his flirting without meaning it to lead to marriage as soon as was proper (and best for her).
