I think they're far more intentional personally, for the reasons you stated. There's no indication of how much revision was done - so it had to be just guess work on the part of whoever was writing the analysis. I think it was probably always part of how she wrote this book. She's obviously very in control of the atmosphere she's creating in the first volume - I fail to see why they think she wouldn't have been able to maintain it for the second just because she was young!
