Really? I can Written by TimLee (3/20/2009 11:49 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I never fully believed John Thorpe about this., penned by Diane N.

You may be right that Thorpe is just bloviating again, but it's not a certainty from what I read in the text. A military man away from his family who wants to have a night out with the boys may very well end up at a place like the Bedford. (The linked post doesn't say the Bedford itself was a brothel, only that it was in the same neighborhood.) I haven't seen anything yet that would suggest the General is so fastidious that he would not frequent the Bedford.
