I had totally missed this! She's recently come around to realizing that the Morlands aren't rich, and has tried to warn John before he does anything rash. And to think how rude it is to tell Catherine this! If Catherine had truly been attached to John, this would have been devastating for her to hear. Thoughtless, selfish Isabella!
