I think the idea of "that kind of abbey" had already taken shape in her mind when she was back in Bath. When she is invited to join the Tilneys in ch.17 we read: Northanger Abbey! These were thrilling words, and wound up Catherine’s feelings to the highest point of ecstasy. The name of the Tilneys´home was enough to nurture her fantasy. And obviously Henry couldn´t convince her of a more realistic view during their ride in the curricle.
