It's almost as if it's a different book.   Written by nan duval (3/18/2009 8:47 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Being in the Abbey, penned by Emmeline
Are you new?

Catherine's reactions are very different after her arrival at Northanger. Perhaps she is trying to make the reality of the Abbey fit with her expectations. Also, Henry's teasing on the way has set her up for a "horrid" experience.

The footnotes & criticisms in the NCE cite the differences in Catherine's character as well as stylistic differences as evidence that NA was extensively revised in 1816, & that the revisions are concentrated in the second volume.
