Are they reassuring Catherine from good motives, or do not want to admit even to Catherine they are not "in the know"?
The key seems to me the meaning of "undefined discovery", which to me sounds like pretense of discovery what it is all about. So does Isabella think they figured out her secret and that is spoiling her enjoyment in having a secret?
