Being ignorant means that she does not possess sufficient knowledge of the world. She lacks facts. Fortunately ignorance can be remedied by instruction, and Henry sees that Catherine is a willing student (at least of his if not of her mother) and has a curious mind and ability to pursue logical thought.
Our one saving assumption we can make is that Henry intends to make Catherine less ignorant as he continues his association with her. He does seem to love to teach (or--from the discussion of the word nice--to lecture).
