Isabella's attitude towards men   Written by Line (3/15/2009 6:16 p.m.)
Are you new?

In ch.16, Isabella once again comments how "conceited" men are, especially one Captain Tilney, and tells Catherine that she "took him down several times, you know, in [her] way." This reminds me of Mrs. Elton in "Emma" who is always going on about conceited puppies, and her own skill at slapping them down. I wonder if young women with this attitude were common in JA's time?
