She is always making allusions, never speaking plain. She even projects her own behaviour onto Catherine(ch.15):" Oh! That arch eye of yours!...Sly creature!"

I think she canīt help speaking in riddles. Thatīs her nature. She provides a perfect foil for Catherineīs honesty and artlessness...
