Richard (inconclusive)   Written by Tom P2 (3/14/2009 4:45 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Question from Chapter 1... sorry to backtrack!, penned by Cathy Allen
Are you new?

Here's what the Könemann Classics edition says about that.

apparently a family joke (cf. Jane Austen's letter to Cassandra, 15 September, 1796: "Mr Richard Harvey's match is put off till he has got a Better Christian name, of which he has great Hopes".)

Unfortunately that doesn't shed any light on the cause. It's just another effect, alongside NA ch1.

Henries (ch12) and Emilies and Sophias (ch14) can all be expected to be like their namesakes, too. :-)
