I've finally caught up with reading chapters and messages, after only discovering this GR on Wednesday. I'm very sorry to have missed the announcement, but VERY happy to be able to participate, FINALLY; I promise to NOT backtrack after this!
At the beginning of this GR, Kathleen Elder quoted:
'Catherine's father, Mr. Morland, was "a very respectable man, though his name was Richard" ...'
And then, Kathleen wrote: "I love the Austen-family joke about "Richard"...
Kathleen, or someone else, will you pleaase explain to me the Austen family joke about the name Richard?
In my admittedly limited reading about JA, I don't recall seeing anything about this, and I'm curious. (Especially since my father, my brother, my nephew, and my grand-nephew are ALL named Richard!)
(As another aside, my name is Catherine ALLEN. This is my first reading of NA, so I was never struck before -- from ONLY having seen the 2 movie adaptations, and boy, am I sorry I waited so long to read it, it's such a delight! -- that both of my names make me fit right into NA!)
