...to assume ill will or negligence on Catherine's part. Henry, being protective of his sister's happiness (in general), felt the slight against Eleanor even if she did not feel it herself. That is the meaning I was trying to convey. I do not think Henry is quite so vain or selfish as to feel angrily insulted on his own behalf alone.
