The 'dreadful account'   Written by Emmeline (3/13/2009 5:43 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, The "dreadful account" from London..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

The 'particular friend' is probably Isabella, who received a letter from someone she knew in London.

What Catherine said about the 'acount of it' is likely what the person wrote in the letter.

At first Eleanor misunderstood what Catherine was talking about, so Henry made them 'understand each other' by his explanation. Yes, he is saying that a Gothic novel will soon be published. I'm not sure if it is any particular novel. But he could be just using his imagination to describe what any typical Gothic novel might be like.
