Patricia P, is your favorite quote the one you quoted, or the one I put up? I suppose it is the one you quoted, and I can definitely see your point that she is making fun of men.

Frankly, thinking further on it, she is making fun of anyone who has this notion of thinking, man or woman. I think in her day, it might have seemed instigated by men (and unfortunately perpetuated by many women as a result.)

Being single and not unintelligent myself, the truisms that JA wrote I find rather frustrating. And I suppose that's why I'm dwelling on it. :]
