I think JA is being ironic here. I cannot believe that she really thinks women should not be well-informed. To me, this passage feels like almost a critism of those men to whom superiority is so important that they just have to be more clever than women. For example, those men might want to teach women, but not to be taught by them. A woman who is already well-informed would hurt their vanity.
