quizzer   Written by Evelynj (3/12/2009 8:29 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Quizzers..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

In response to the term "quizzer" I looked it up in my trusty New Oxford American Dictionary. Some definitions: 1. look curiously or intently at someone; 2. make fun of; 3. a practical joke or hoax; 4. a person who ridicules another. It goes on to state that the origin for qizzer is "late 18th century sometimes said to have been invented by a Dublin theater proprietor who, having made a bet that a nonsense word could be made known within 48 hours throughout the city, and that the public would give it a meaning, had the word written up on walls all over the city. There is no evidence to support this theory."

As an American I have always thought of quiz as a test that someone gives you so I have learned something new as I do everyday reading the group read comments. Thank you so much for taking time to make these available.
