Emily & Sophia   Written by Robbin (3/12/2009 3:03 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Isabella's sister, penned by JoAnn
Are you new?

"...but glad that Anne should have the friendship of an Emily and a Sophia to console her." (Ch. 14)

Terrific catch JoAnn—this is what makes group reads fun. (;D) Sophia Western is the heroine of Tom Jones by Henry Fielding. I found a post by Barbara in the archives of the 2006 NA group read—see link. The novel is mentioned by John Thorpe in Ch. 7:

“Novels are all so full of nonsense and stuff; there has not been a tolerably decent one come out since Tom Jones, except The Monk; I read that t’other day; but as for all the others, they are the stupidest things in creation.” (Ch. 7)

Thanks for reading. (;D)
