contrast to Isabella   Written by Karen G. (3/11/2009 10:06 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Catherine´s first encounter with them differs also..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

I love this particular interchange with Catherine and Miss Tilney which shows how much she is a contrast with flattering Isabella:

“When Henry had the pleasure of seeing you before, he was in Bath but for a couple of days. He came only to engage lodgings for us.”
“That never occurred to me; and of course, not seeing him anywhere, I thought he must be gone. Was not the young lady he danced with on Monday a Miss Smith?”
“Yes, an acquaintance of Mrs. Hughes.”
“I dare say she was very glad to dance. Do you think her pretty?”
“Not very.”

Makes me smile everytime I read it. Isabella is always saying how wonderful certain people are at first and then contradicting herself later. But Miss Tilney is short and to the point! :-)
