Are you new?

I think James told John exactly what we're told in chapter 1:


He had a considerable independence besides two good livings . They weren't poor and James would never pretend anything different from what I've seen of him so far. John on the other hand would obviously make more of this! All of his talk seems to me to be an exaggeration of everything about himself - why not do it for his friends as well?
