It's so very early in their acquaintance   Written by Louise H (3/10/2009 2:08 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Confused about HT`s remarks on marriage..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

It seems to me that at this very early stage of their acquaintance, there's no reason to take normal subjects off the table as being indelicate. Later on, when Catherine's hopes of their marrying might have been raised, perhaps it would be unwise of him to talk about marriage casually. But I think it's too early for that.

He could with propriety discuss the marriage-country dance analogy with his sister -- showing off how witty he is -- so he should be able to do so with a new female acquaintance as well.

Though I do think he's being a bit flirty. :)
