Are you new?

what James has told his friends at school, or if he has acted in a way to make Thorpe think his family is better off than they are (not that they are poor), or some such. One can imagine that young men might boast about their backgrounds when they first arrive at university.

Or is all of this just Thorpe's own assumptions just because Catherine is with the Allens?
