I very much admire Catherine...   Written by Emmeline (3/8/2009 7:09 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Catherine and James's Relationship with the Thorpes (long), penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

...for being firm in the scene you mentioned:

Catherine was distressed, but not subdued.

At one moment she was softened, at another irritated; always distressed, but always steady.

'If I am wrong, I am doing what I believe to be right.'

'This will not do, I cannot submit to this.'

'If I could not be persuaded into doing what I thought wrong, I never will be tricked into it.'

I agree with you about James. I do not approve of his behaviour here at all.
