I would not think *The Monk* and *Udolpho*... Written by Adrian (3/7/2009 12:42 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, High and low novels..., penned by Eirene

...were of the same ilk. Udolpho was mostly a travelogue, suspense piece. I get the impression that The Monk was far more lascivious, perhaps more intended for male readers than female (at least among the "respectable" classes).
