“It is not like Udolpho at all; but yet I think it is very entertaining.” chpt6
I feel that if Catherine could know that it is not like Udolpho, there is a very good chance that she had read it - either that or her mother had told her the story. IMO her "yet I think it is very entertaining." can be interpreted in two ways. Either she is not certain since she only deduced from her mother's reading it so often that it is entertaining, or she found it entertaining herself, but did not want to contradict Isabella's opinion.
I would like to believe that Catherine did read it herself and didn't say so outright because due to Isabella's condemning it as unreadable. I think it is another indirect manner in which JA is telling us that Catherine has occupied her mind better than what we are led to believe at first.
