Are you new?

There's already plenty to object to in the Thorpes' conduct without digging for violations of latter-day sensibilities. I don't recall any great attention to Euro-xenophobia in England at that time, either for or against.

Though, a quick look at Wikipedia reveals that my most obvious counter-example was actually written in 1905 (The Scarlet Pimpernel), so I suppose I can't really justify my objection. And I have no idea how to go about finding examples either for or against Adrian's idea.
