Catherine's development - chap. 1   Written by Elizabeth K (3/3/2009 9:57 a.m.)
Are you new?

One of the things which struck me when I first read NA is how short a time JA gives us to see Catherine growing up. In chapter 1, we are only given a few pages to become acquainted with her life and what it was like before she went on her travels to Bath and I would have liked a longer introduction. JA races through the chapter with only a few sentences for each phase of Catherine's growing up years. As JA had plenty of time to revise NA, it must have been her intention to only allow us to see a little bit of Catherine's home life; personally, I would have liked to have seen more of her background. What do other Pemberleans think?
